Simexco Daklak was established in the 1990s as a state-linked coffee export cooperative in Buôn Ma Thuột, Dak Lak Province — Vietnam's central highlands and the world's largest Robusta-producing region. The cooperative aggregates Robusta from thousands of smallholder Vietnamese farmers, many belonging to the indigenous Ede and other Central Highlands ethnic minority communities whose traditional land formed the basis for coffee plantation development. The cooperative structure emerged from Vietnam's post-Đổi Mới (1986 economic reform) transition, which shifted agricultural production from collective state farms to household plots with market-based export channels.
