Zeochem AG
Zeochem AG (Uetikon am See, Switzerland; privately held) is a specialty molecular sieve and chromatography adsorbent manufacturer with PSA-grade zeolite products serving medical oxygen concentrator and industrial nitrogen PSA markets. Zeochem produces 13X, 4A, 5A, and LiX zeolites at manufacturing sites in Uetikon am See, Switzerland and Louisville, Kentucky (US). The Louisville facility is the only significant Western Hemisphere molecular sieve production plant besides UOP's Baton Rouge operations, making Zeochem a strategically important non-Chinese supply alternative. Zeochem also produces high-purity silica gel and activated aluminas used in chromatography and pharmaceutical manufacturing — a customer base that overlaps with its PSA zeolite markets.

Zeochem AG headquarters and primary European manufacturing site on Lake Zurich in Uetikon am See, Switzerland. Produces specialty molecular sieves and chromatography adsorbents; R&D center for LiX and advanced PSA adsorbent development. Swiss-regulated facility supplying European medical device OEMs and pharmaceutical companies under Swiss Medtech quality frameworks. Source: https://www.zeochem.com/en/products/molecular-sieves/

USKentucky · manufacturing
Zeochem's US manufacturing facility in Louisville, Kentucky — one of only two significant Western Hemisphere molecular sieve production plants (alongside UOP Baton Rouge). Produces 13X, 4A, 5A, and LiX zeolite beads and powder for PSA oxygen concentrators and industrial nitrogen PSA systems. The Louisville plant is strategically important as a US-territory supply alternative: Zeochem-Louisville provides domestic US supply optionality that UOP Baton Rouge alone cannot absorb if demand surges (as occurred during COVID-19). The facility also serves chromatography and pharmaceutical desiccant markets from the same plant. Source: https://www.zeochem.com/us/products/molecular-sieves/

Did you know2023
Zeochem's LiX (lithium-exchanged zeolite X) molecular sieve is simultaneously in two separate life-supporting healthcare applications and one food safety application: (1) Medical oxygen concentrators for home oxygen therapy — patients with COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, or congestive heart failure use home oxygen concentrators that contain Zeochem LiX zeolite to separate oxygen from air; replacing cylinder delivery with on-demand oxygen generation; over 1.5 million US patients use home oxygen concentrators; (2) Industrial PSA nitrogen for modified atmosphere food packaging — nitrogen generated by PSA sieve from air is used to flush packaged fresh produce, processed meat, and baked goods; extending shelf life by displacing oxygen; (3) Pharmaceutical chromatography purification — Zeochem silica gel media purifies drug substances during manufacturing. The same Uetikon, Switzerland facility that produces zeolite for COPD patient home oxygen therapy also produces adsorbents that purify the pharmaceutical drugs those same COPD patients take to manage their condition. A Swiss specialty adsorbent company is embedded in both the oxygen supply chain and the pharmaceutical supply chain for respiratory disease patients.
Zeochem AG ↗Origin2023
Zeochem AG operates the only significant Western Hemisphere LiX zeolite production facility outside of UOP/Honeywell's Baton Rouge plant — its Louisville, Kentucky plant. This geographic positioning became strategically important during the COVID-19 pandemic when global demand for medical oxygen concentrators surged: as hospitals and home patients across the developing world sought oxygen concentrators for COVID-19 respiratory support, the LiX zeolite sieve inside each concentrator became a global bottleneck. Chinese zeolite producers dominate the global molecular sieve market (~70-80% of global production), but quality consistency and supply security concerns during the pandemic created demand for non-Chinese sources. Zeochem's Louisville plant and Swiss production became critical for Western concentrator manufacturers (Invacare, DeVilbiss/PARI, AirSep/Chart). The small Swiss company in Uetikon am See, with its Kentucky satellite, was suddenly a supply chain security asset for global health infrastructure.
