ATCO Gas — Alberta Rural Distribution Network
ATCO Gas (Calgary AB; subsidiary of Canadian Utilities Limited, which is majority-owned by ATCO Ltd.) is the primary natural gas distribution utility in Alberta, serving 1.2 million customers. ATCO's rural distribution system serves grain farm operators in central and northern Alberta — including the Peace Country grain belt (Grande Prairie region) where canola, barley, and spring wheat are grown. ATCO Gas receives natural gas supply from TC Energy's NOVA Gas Transmission system and delivers it to on-farm grain dryers. Alberta's grain drying season (September-October) coincides with early residential heating demand, creating the same dual-use demand conflict that affects US Midwest LDCs. ATCO Gas is regulated by the Alberta Utilities Commission.
