World's largest copper mine (open pit). Produces ~1.1–1.25 Mt copper/yr, ~5% of global output. Located at 3,100m elevation in the Atacama Desert. Owned 57.5% BHP, 30% Rio Tinto, 12.5% Japanese consortium (JECO). Mine has run since 1990.
