Evonik Marl Chemical Park (Methyl Mercaptan / THT)
Evonik's Marl Chemical Park (Marl, North Rhine-Westphalia) is Germany's primary production site for methyl mercaptan and tetrahydrothiophene (THT). Marl is one of Europe's largest integrated chemical parks; Evonik produces methyl mercaptan primarily as a precursor to DL-methionine (an essential amino acid in animal feed) and as a thiochemical feedstock. THT produced at Marl is the primary gas odorant for German and Dutch gas networks (Deutsche Gas / Gasunie), representing the European alternative to the North American TBM standard.
