Freeport-McMoRan Grasberg Mine (Tembagapura, Papua, Indonesia)
Grasberg mine complex in the Sudirman Mountains of Papua Province, Indonesia. One of the world's largest copper and gold mines. Operated by PT Freeport Indonesia (majority owned by Freeport-McMoRan). Has transitioned from open-pit (Grasberg Open Pit, now exhausted) to underground block cave mining (Grasberg Block Cave, Deep Mill Level Zone). Production of ~800,000 tonnes/year copper concentrate equivalent. Indonesian government (through Inalum/MIND ID) holds 51% stake. Subject to periodic export bans, smelter conversion requirements under Indonesian mining law, and labor disputes.
