Kolon Industries – Gumi Para-Aramid Plant (South Korea)
Integrated para-aramid facility at 48 Suchul-daero, Gumi-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Full vertical integration: polymerization through final Heracron yarn. Capacity doubled from 7,500 to 15,310 tons/year in 2024 (KRW 300B / ~$221M investment). Pulp capacity also doubled to 3,000 tons/year. Running at ~80% utilization at Q2 2025; targeting full output Q4 2025. Exports grew +31% Jan–May 2025, driven by China 5G and AI data center optical fiber demand. Gumi is South Korea's major industrial cluster for specialty chemicals and electronics manufacturing.
