SSAB Americas – Muscatine, Iowa (Plate Mill)
1770 Bill Sharp Blvd, Muscatine, Iowa. SSAB's primary North American steel plate mill; founded 1997 as IPSCO (later acquired by SSAB). ~1.2 million tonnes/year nameplate capacity; ~500 employees; EAF-based using ~92% recycled scrap. Powered by MidAmerican Energy wind energy. Produces Hardox wear plate (400-500+ HBW) and structural plate. Onsite R&D and metallographic laboratory. Apparatus steel purchasers typically specify Domex or equivalent HSLA structural grades; the Muscatine mill serves the heavy equipment and truck markets that include fire apparatus structural components. Large-format plate up to heavy thicknesses.
