Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle E— Reserve Components › Part I— ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION › Chapter 1005— ELEMENTS OF RESERVE COMPONENTS › § 10147
Most people who join the Ready Reserve must do yearly training. Unless rules from the Secretary of Defense or the Secretary of Homeland Security for the Coast Guard say otherwise, and except for those who join under sections 513 or 10145(b), a Ready Reserve member must either take part in at least 48 scheduled drills and spend at least 14 days on active-duty training each year (travel time not counted), or instead serve on active-duty training for no more than 30 days in a year. If a member has already served one year or more on active duty, they cannot be forced to start a required active-duty training period if its first day falls in the last 120 days of their required time in the Ready Reserve.
