Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— General Military Law › Part II— PERSONNEL › Chapter 53— MISCELLANEOUS RIGHTS AND BENEFITS › § 1060
Congress allows a retired member of the armed forces to take a job or hold an office in the military of a newly democratic country and to be paid for it. The job and the country must be approved together by the Secretary concerned and the Secretary of State, who also decide what counts as a newly democratic nation. Taking such an approved job does not stop the retiree or their dependents from getting retired or retainer pay and other benefits. "Retired member" means someone entitled to retired or retainer pay.
