Title 16 › CHAPTER 1 — NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › SUBCHAPTER LXIII — NATIONAL SEASHORE RECREATIONAL AREAS › § 459i–5
Manage, protect, and develop the seashore under the Act of August 25, 1916, as changed. The Secretary may also use other conservation laws if those laws help meet the goals of sections 459i to 459i–9. Keep the seashore mostly in its natural, primitive state. Parts that are clearly good for recreation—like swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and similar uses—may be developed as needed. Do not build visitor features that would harm the island’s unique plants, animals, or landforms, and do not build any road or causeway connecting Cumberland Island to the mainland. Notwithstanding that, the Secretary may enter into not more than 3 concession contracts to provide tours that follow sections 459i to 459i–9, the Wilderness Act, and Public Law 97–250.
