§670o Authorization of Appropriations

Title 16 › Chapter 5C— CONSERVATION PROGRAMS ON GOVERNMENT LANDS › Subchapter II— CONSERVATION PROGRAMS ON PUBLIC LANDS › § 670o

Last updated Apr 5, 2026|Official source

Summary

Congress authorizes $4,000,000 for each fiscal year 1998 through 2003 for the Secretary of the Interior to do work under this part, like collecting data, doing research, planning, and running conservation and repair programs on public lands. Those dollars are extra to other money already allowed for wildlife, range, soil, and water work. Congress also authorizes $5,000,000 for each fiscal year 1998 through 2003 for the Secretary of Agriculture to carry out duties under this part. When asking for that money, the Agriculture Secretary must consider fish and wildlife needs found in State comprehensive plans under the Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act of 1974 (16 U.S.C. 1601–1610). The Interior and Agriculture Secretaries may use other conservation authorities they already have. They may buy goods and services from, or give help to, State agencies when needed for projects that benefit Federal lands and are listed in the comprehensive plans or agreements under section 670h. Those purchases and agreements can ignore the rules in division C of subtitle I of title 41 except for sections 3302, 3307(e), 3501(b), 3509, 3901, 3905, 3906, 4710, and 4711. The power to make contracts only works to the extent and in the amounts that Congress actually provides in appropriation laws.
