Title 19 › Chapter 4— TARIFF ACT OF 1930 › Subtitle SUBTITLE VI— SOFTWOOD LUMBER › § 1683e
The Secretary of the Treasury must regularly check statements made by U.S. importers. The checks include making sure the export price the importer reports matches any export permit price from the country of export, and that the importer’s estimated export charge agrees with the official determination published by the Under Secretary for International Trade. Records for the importer declaration program are treated like other required government records under the law. The Treasury can use its authority to take action and examine those records to verify the importer’s statements are true and accurate.
