The Institute gives yearly grants, from money it has available, to historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic‑serving institutions, tribally controlled colleges or universities, and other minority institutions. The grants must help these schools strengthen international affairs, international business, and foreign language programs, including teaching languages. The schools may team up with other colleges that get money under the same subchapter. A school must apply to get a grant. The Institute decides when to apply, how to apply, and what information is needed. Hispanic‑serving institution — see section 1101a. Minority institution — see section 1067k.
