It is illegal to make, import, or sell an electronic product that does not meet the required safety standards. It is also illegal to refuse to give required notices, reports, or other information, to refuse to keep required records, or to block the Secretary or their representatives from inspecting or copying those records. Companies must give any required safety certifications based on proper testing and must not issue certifications that are false or misleading. The Secretary can exempt a product or group of products from these rules, with conditions, for public health, research, demonstrations, training, or national security.
