Title 22 › Chapter 53A— DISPOSITION OF PERSONAL PROPERTY ABROAD › § 4342
Employees and their family must not sell, give away, or otherwise get rid of personal items inside a foreign country if those items were brought into or bought there and were exempt from import limits, customs duties, or taxes because of the employee’s official status. The chief of mission (or someone the chief names) can allow such sales for employees under the chief’s authority (see section 3927), but only under the rules made under section 4343. Breaking these rules, or selling items in ways that violate the host country’s laws or international law, can lead to discipline.
