Title 24 › Chapter 9— HOSPITALIZATION OF MENTALLY ILL NATIONALS RETURNED FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES › § 324
Until transfer and release under section 323, the Secretary may provide medical care and treatment for an eligible person. The person can be hospitalized in federal hospitals (inside or outside the Department by agreement) or in public or private hospitals in any State under contract or other arrangements, and may be moved from temporary care under section 322. In choosing where to hospitalize the person, the Secretary must consider the patient’s best interests. This authority does not apply if another United States agency is already responsible for the person’s medical care.
