Title 29 › Chapter 18— EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT INCOME SECURITY PROGRAM › Subchapter I— PROTECTION OF EMPLOYEE BENEFIT RIGHTS › Subtitle Subtitle B— Regulatory Provisions › Part 1— reporting and disclosure › § 1031
Ends the old Welfare and Pension Plans Disclosure Act, but that old law still applies to any actions or events that happened before the new rules start. It also updates several federal laws so they refer to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), Title I, and to employee welfare and pension plans instead of the old Act. Most changes take effect on January 1, 1975. If a plan’s year crosses that date, the Secretary may delay the switch until the first plan year that begins after January 1, 1975. The Secretary’s power to write rules under this part starts on September 2, 1974. The delay rule and the September 2, 1974 start do not apply to changes made after that date.
