It is illegal for anyone to use fraud, force, violence, or threats to stop or try to stop a plan participant or beneficiary from getting rights or benefits under the plan or related pension laws (including section 1201 and the Welfare and Pension Plans Disclosure Act). A person who does this on purpose can be fined $100,000, put in prison for up to 10 years, or both.
