Defines common words used in the chapter. 3D = three-dimensional. 3D elevation data = high-resolution 3D land and underwater elevation information for the United States and its territories collected by LiDAR, IfSAR, or similar methods. 3D Elevation Program = the program created under section 3104(a). IfSAR = interferometric synthetic aperture radar. Indian tribe = as defined in section 5304 of title 25. Lahar = a large, mostly volcanic debris flow that is often fast and can threaten watersheds downstream of volcanoes. LiDAR = light detection and ranging. Secretary = the Secretary of the Interior acting through the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey. State = a State and the District of Columbia. State office = a State agency that handles landslide mapping, study, or response, such as geological surveys, emergency management, or transportation departments. Territory = the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; Guam; American Samoa; the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands; the Federated States of Micronesia; the Republic of the Marshall Islands; the Republic of Palau; and the United States Virgin Islands.
