§3101 Definitions

Defines the key words used in this chapter. 3D means three-dimensional. 3D elevation data means high-resolution 3D terrain measurements collected across the United States and its territories by LiDAR, IfSAR, or similar methods, and covers both land and underwater (bathymetric) elevations. 3D Elevation Program is the program set up under section 3104(a). IfSAR means interferometric synthetic aperture radar. LiDAR means light detection and ranging. Indian tribe uses the meaning in 25 U.S.C. 5304. Lahar means a large, often fast volcanic debris flow that can threaten downstream watersheds. Secretary means the Secretary of the Interior through the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey. State means a State and the District of Columbia. State office means a state agency that maps or responds to landslide hazards. Territory means Puerto Rico; Guam; American Samoa; the Northern Mariana Islands; the Federated States of Micronesia; the Republic of the Marshall Islands; the Republic of Palau; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
