Title 45 › Chapter 19— ROCK ISLAND RAILROAD EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE › § 1004
Gives certain Rock Island Railroad workers the first chance to be hired by other rail carriers that the Commission regulates. It applies to people who worked for Rock Island on August 1, 1979 and who were separated or furloughed (not for cause) before January 1, 1984 because service was cut, including workers laid off from a carrier that was temporarily running Rock Island lines. They get the first right to fill open jobs unless they are found less qualified or the job is reserved under a required or permitted affirmative action plan. A carrier calling back its own furloughed employees is not treated as hiring new workers. These rights are equal to the rights given to Chicago, Milwaukee, Saint Paul and Pacific Railroad Company employees by section 907 of this title.
