Title 46 › Subtitle Subtitle II— Vessels and Seamen › Part G— Merchant Seamen Protection and Relief › Chapter 111— PROTECTION AND RELIEF › § 11109
Stops courts from taking the pay of a master or seaman. A judge cannot seize a master’s or seaman’s wages, except if the judge orders some wages to be paid for support of the worker’s spouse or minor children. If the worker is paid, that payment counts even if the wages were earlier sold, assigned, or seized. A sale or assignment of wages made before payday does not legally bind the person who made it, except for allotments allowed under section 10315. The rule also applies to people working on fishing vessels or fish-processing vessels.
