The Secret Service director, or someone the director picks, can give a clothing allowance to a member who must wear normal business or work clothes and buys them on their own. This is in addition to the benefits under section 5901. The allowance is not part of the member’s basic pay and cannot be used to figure retirement, overtime, paid leave, lump-sum payments under sections 5551 or 5552, workers’ compensation, or other benefits. The director can stop the allowance any time with written notice. The allowance cannot be more than $500 per year.
