Each agency must name a statistical official — the head of its statistics unit or, if it has none, a senior official with statistical expertise — to advise on statistical policy, methods, and procedures. That official must be a member of the Interagency Council on Statistical Policy (section 3504(e)(8) of title 44), and agency staff doing statistical work may consult them as needed.
