If a preference eligible was separated or furloughed without wrongdoing, they can ask to have their name put on hiring lists and registers for any job they are qualified for. Their name is placed in the order set by section 3313, and this applies to lists kept by the Office of Personnel Management, any Executive agency, or the District of Columbia government. The Office of Personnel Management can also decide that someone separated or furloughed without pay under section 7512 gets the same placement rights.
