Title 5 › Part III— EMPLOYEES › Subpart C— Employee Performance › Chapter 41— TRAINING › § 4108
Employees chosen for training longer than the agency’s minimum must sign a written agreement before the training. They must stay with the agency for at least three times the length of the training after it ends, unless the agency involuntarily separates them. If they quit before that time, they must repay the extra training costs to the government. If they move to another government agency, repayment is not required unless the training agency told them, before the move took effect, that repayment would be required. If an employee (except one relieved under subsection (b) or section 4102(b)) does not pay, the government can recover the amount from the employee or their estate by taking it from pay, retirement credit, or by other lawful methods.
