§4507a Awarding of Ranks to Other Senior Career Employees

Summary

Each agency must send the Office of Personnel Management each year a list of senior career employees to be considered for the Meritorious Senior Professional or Distinguished Senior Professional ranks. The President can award those ranks for sustained accomplishment or for sustained extraordinary accomplishment. A senior career employee is paid under section 5376 in a job above GS–15, is not on a time‑limited appointment, and is not in an excepted confidential or policy-making position. OPM sets the rules and handles recommendations, reviews, and awards using the same terms that apply to Senior Executive Service rank awards under section 4507.
