Summary
An employee can't be charged leave for up to one year if they are absent because of an injury that (1) happened while they were serving abroad and was caused by war, insurgency, mob violence, or other hostile actions, and (2) was not the result of the employee's bad habits, excessive drinking, or intentional wrongdoing.

Leave may not be charged to the account of an employee for absence, not to exceed one year, due to an injury—
(1)incurred while serving abroad and resulting from war, insurgency, mob violence, or similar hostile action; and
(2)not due to vicious habits, intemperance, or willful misconduct on the part of the employee.

1986—Pub. L. 99–399 inserted sentence at end relating to alien employees. 1979—Pub.
