The Director of National Intelligence must send the congressional intelligence committees a yearly report about any law or executive-order violations tied to intelligence activities by intelligence community staff found in the previous calendar year, including violations under Executive Order No. 12333. While protecting ongoing criminal investigations, the report must describe each violation and say what was done when the violation was (1) found by a director, head, or general counsel of an intelligence element; (2) sent to the Department of Justice for possible criminal charges; or (3) confirmed by an inspector general.
