Defines the main words used in the chapter. "Servicemember" means a member of the uniformed services (see 10 U.S.C. 101(a)(5)). "Military service" covers active duty for Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard (see 10 U.S.C. 101(d)(1)); it also includes certain National Guard duty if called for more than 30 consecutive days under 32 U.S.C. 502(f) for a presidentially declared national emergency with federal funds, active service for commissioned officers of the Public Health Service or NOAA, and any time a servicemember is absent from duty for sickness, wounds, leave, or other lawful reasons. "Period of military service" runs from the date a servicemember enters service until release or death while in service. "Dependent" means a spouse, a child (see 38 U.S.C. 101(4)), or someone the servicemember supported more than one-half for the 180 days immediately before applying for relief. "Court" includes any U.S. or State court or administrative agency, including local government bodies. "State" includes commonwealths, territories, possessions, and the District of Columbia. "Secretary concerned" means the official named in 10 U.S.C. 101(a)(9) for armed forces members, the Secretary of Health and Human Services for PHS officers, and the Secretary of Commerce for NOAA officers. "Motor vehicle" has the meaning in 49 U.S.C. 30102(a)(6). "Judgment" means any judgment, decree, order, or ruling, whether final or temporary.
