§40302 Definitions

Summary

Gives plain meanings for important words used later in the chapter. Aeronautical and space activities uses the meaning given in section 20103. A field related to space is any area of study that helps understand or use space, like the sciences, engineering, space technology, education, economics, social science, communications, planning, law, international affairs, and public administration. Panel means the space grant review panel set up under section 40308. Person means any individual, company, nonprofit, college, lab, or a State or local government or agency. Space environment means the region beyond the part of Earth’s atmosphere we live in. Space grant college is a higher-education school the Administrator names under section 40306. Space grant program is a program run by a designated college, consortium, school, institute, lab, or state/local agency that has at least two education projects and at least one activity such as research, training, or advisory services in space-related fields. Space grant regional consortium is a group the Administrator names under section 40306. Space resource means any tangible or intangible benefit that can only come from aeronautical and space activities or advances in space-related fields. State includes the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, and any other U.S. territory or possession.
