§182 Definitions

Defines key words used in this chapter. Person means an individual, a partnership, a corporation, or an association. Secretary means the Secretary of Agriculture. Meat food products means any edible product or byproduct from the slaughtering and meat‑packing business. Livestock means cattle, sheep, swine, horses, mules, or goats, whether alive or dead. Livestock products means any products or byproducts from slaughtering or meat‑packing that come from livestock, except meats and meat food products. Poultry means chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and other domestic fowl. Poultry product means any product or byproduct from slaughtering or processing poultry. Poultry grower means someone who raises and cares for live poultry for another person’s slaughter, but not an employee of the poultry owner. Poultry growing arrangement means a growout contract, marketing agreement, or similar arrangement where a grower raises poultry under another’s instructions for delivery and slaughter. Live poultry dealer means a person who obtains live poultry by purchase or under such an arrangement to slaughter or sell for slaughter when the birds or their products move in commerce. Commerce means trade or transport across state lines, between a state or territory and places outside it, between points in the same state if the route goes through outside places, or within a U.S. territory or the District of Columbia. Swine contractor means a person who obtains swine under a swine production contract to slaughter or sell for slaughter when the swine or their products move in commerce. Swine production contract means a growout contract or similar agreement where a grower raises swine under another person’s instructions. Swine production contract grower means a person who raises and cares for swine under another person’s instructions.
