Repatriation Available Starting Feb 18, 2025
The No Man's Land Museum says the human remains (at least two individuals) may be returned to a claimant if requested on or after February 18, 2025. Written requests must be sent to the museum's authorized representative and claimants must show by a preponderance of the evidence that they are a lineal descendant or an Indian Tribe or Native Hawaiian organization with cultural affiliation.
Museum Determined No Cultural Affiliation
The museum determined that the human remains represent one or more individuals of Native American ancestry but identified no lineal descendant and no Indian Tribe or Native Hawaiian organization with cultural affiliation. The determination means no tribe or descendant was clearly or reasonably identified in the museum's inventory and consultation results.
Tribal Consultation Invitations and Responses
The museum invited several tribes to consult (including Apache Tribe of Oklahoma; Cheyenne and Arapaho; Comanche Nation; Osage Nation; and Wichita & Affiliated Tribes). The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, Comanche Nation, Osage Nation, and Wichita & Affiliated Tribes agreed to consult; the Quapaw Nation declined to comment.
