Military Ordered to Seal U.S. Borders
The President ordered the Armed Forces to prioritize protecting U.S. borders and to repel ‘‘forms of invasion’’ including unlawful mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and other criminal activities. The order also states a National Emergency currently exists along the southern border.
DoD Must Reassign Mission to USNORTHCOM Quickly
The Secretary of Defense must deliver, no later than 10 days from the order’s effective date (January 20, 2025), a revision to the Unified Command Plan assigning U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) the mission to seal the borders. The order also adds a Level 3 planning requirement with a commander's estimate due within 30 days of the effective date.
