Summary
The U.S. says Indian melamine makers, especially Gujarat Fertilizers, got unfair government help from Jan to Dec 2023. Because of this, extra taxes (called countervailing duties) will be added to their melamine imports to keep things fair for U.S. businesses. These changes kick in soon, so importers should get ready to pay more.

Countervailing Duties on Indian Melamine
If you import melamine from India, the U.S. Department of Commerce has determined that countervailable subsidies exist for producers and exporters of melamine from India. The investigation covers Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited for the period January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023, and extra duties (countervailing duties) will be added to those imports.
Critical Circumstances Determination Made
Commerce also issued a critical circumstances determination in the melamine case from India. The document states these changes "kick in soon," so importers of Indian melamine should get ready to pay more.
