Summary

The U.S. says some corrosion-resistant steel from the UAE might be unfairly priced, so they’re taking a closer look and could charge extra fees starting July 1, 2023. Steel from South Africa is in the clear for now. This means importers from the UAE should watch out for possible new costs soon!

UAE Steel Importers May Face Duties

If you import certain corrosion-resistant steel (CORE) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the U.S. Department of Commerce preliminarily found 'critical circumstances' and could collect additional duties starting July 1, 2023. The Department's review covers the period July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

South Africa CORE Imports Not Subject

If you import certain corrosion-resistant steel from South Africa, the Department of Commerce preliminarily determined that 'critical circumstances' do not exist for those imports. This means Commerce is not pursuing additional duties for South African CORE in the period July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 under this preliminary finding.
