Missouri Hydro Project Tweaks: Comments Due Soon

Published Date: 4/18/2025

Notice

Summary

Ameren UE wants to make some changes to its Osage Hydroelectric Project license in Missouri, but these changes won’t affect how much power the project produces. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has accepted the application and is asking the public and agencies to share their thoughts by May 14, 2025. This is a chance for locals and experts to weigh in before any updates happen—no big money or timing shifts yet, just important paperwork and feedback.

Public comment and intervention window

You can submit comments, protests, or a motion to intervene in FERC’s proceeding on Ameren UE’s Osage Project application by May 14, 2025. Use FERC’s eFiling or eComment systems (or mail a paper copy) and include the docket number P-459-352 on the first page; the Commission’s Office of Public Participation can help members of the public, landowners, and Tribal members with filings.

Proposed removal of 147 acres from project boundary

Ameren UE asked FERC to remove about 147 acres (five separate sites) from the Osage Hydroelectric Project boundary around Lake of the Ozarks; the project reservoir currently encompasses 57,460 surface acres and 2,118 adjacent acres, and the 147 acres represent less than one percent of the project's total acreage. Ameren states the lands are not needed for project operation, recreation, shoreline control, or environmental protection, but would continue to retain the right to flow water over those lands if needed.
