Gummed Up Trade: China Faces Duties on Xanthan Imports
Published Date: 5/27/2025
Notice
Summary
The U.S. checked xanthan gum imports from China between July 2022 and June 2023 and found some companies sold it for less than fair value. This means certain Chinese companies will face extra duties, while others didn’t ship any product during this time. These changes affect importers and could impact prices and trade starting now.
Analyzed Economic Effects
3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
Antidumping findings for Fufeng and Deosen
Commerce determined that Neimenggu Fufeng Biotechnologies Co., Ltd., Shandong Fufeng Fermentation Co., Ltd., Xinjiang Fufeng Biotechnologies Co., Ltd. (collectively, Fufeng), and Deosen Biochemical (Ordos) Ltd. sold xanthan gum from China at less than normal value during the period July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. This finding means importers of xanthan gum from those specific exporters may face extra antidumping duties and could see changes to trade and prices tied to those shipments.
Separate-rate eligibility for two exporters
Commerce found that Jianlong Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and CP Kelco (Shandong) Biological Company Limited are eligible for a separate rate for xanthan gum for the period July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. The notice records their separate-rate eligibility as part of the administrative review.
No shipments found for two firms
Commerce determined that Shanghai Smart Chemicals Co. Ltd. and Deosen Biochemical Ltd. had no shipments of xanthan gum to the United States during the period July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. The review therefore records these companies as having no shipments for that review period.
