Economic data to inform fishery management
NOAA will collect trip cost and other economic measures (costs, earnings, profitability, productivity, capacity, and distribution of net benefits) and use them in regulatory analyses and Stock Assessment and Fishery Evaluation (SAFE) reports to help manage fisheries and assess impacts such as employment, sales, and income. The collection is authorized under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.
Short voluntary survey time burden
About 95 Hawaii and American Samoa pelagic longline fishers will be asked to provide trip cost data. Each response will take about 10 minutes, the estimated total burden is 32.5 hours, and surveys will be taken twice a year for three years; participation is voluntary.
