Published Date: 8/29/2025

Notice

Summary

The U.S. says some Brazilian steel makers got unfair government help, so they’re adding extra fees on certain corrosion-resistant steel from Brazil. This means importers will pay more starting now to keep things fair for U.S. steel companies. These changes cover steel products shipped during 2023 and could affect prices and trade.

Importers Face Extra Duties on Brazilian CORE

The Department of Commerce found countervailable subsidies for certain corrosion-resistant steel products (CORE) from Brazil and is adding extra charges on those imports. The determination covers products shipped during January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023, and importers and downstream buyers can expect to pay higher costs for those covered shipments.

Ruling Aims to Help U.S. Steel Producers

Commerce determined that Brazilian producers/exporters of certain CORE received subsidies and is imposing countervailing measures to offset them. This action is intended to help keep competition fair for U.S. steel companies by neutralizing the effect of those subsidies.
