Published Date: 4/23/2026

Notice

Summary

Freeport LNG wants to remove some old equipment at its Texas terminal that’s no longer needed because they’ve been exporting gas for years, not importing. This change will make the terminal safer and easier to run by cutting down on maintenance for unused parts. The company asked the government to officially cancel permission for these outdated facilities, so things can keep running smoothly and safely.

Removal of Old Regasification Equipment

Freeport LNG asked FERC on April 6, 2026 to terminate the part of its 2004 authorization that allowed regasification facilities at its Quintana Island terminal in Brazoria County, Texas, and to decommission and remove those obsolete regasification facilities. The company says removing them will enhance safety and operational efficiency by reducing maintenance on non-operational assets and letting personnel focus on active systems.
