Email Option for Interpretations and Permits
If you work with pipelines, starting August 3, 2026 you may submit requests for written regulatory interpretations and applications for special permits to PHMSA by email (for interpretations: [email protected]; for special permits: [email protected]) instead of only by mail or fax. PHMSA says this change is non-substantive, should make the process faster and easier, and will not impose extra costs; written interpretation requests should still be submitted at least 120 days before you need a response.
