4 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 4 costs, 0 mixed.

Mandatory crack inspections and replacements

If you own or operate an Airbus Helicopters Deutschland Model MBB-BK 117 D-3 helicopter, you must inspect the rotor hub-shaft (manufacturer part numbers D623M1501203 and D623M1501204) for cracks. If any crack or suspicion of a crack is found, you must replace the rotor hub-shaft and report the results; these requirements are effective May 14, 2026.

FAA cost estimates for compliance

The FAA estimates this AD affects 78 U.S.-registered helicopters. The AD lists inspection cost as 1 work-hour x $85 per helicopter ($85) and reporting cost as 1 work-hour x $85 per helicopter ($85), for a total listed cost on U.S. operators of $6,630 for each of those actions. The on-condition replacement lists 4 work-hours x $85 per hour and shows parts cost and a total replacement cost per product in the AD's on-condition table.

Installation of affected parts prohibited

The rule prohibits installing the affected rotor hub-shaft parts (part numbers D623M1501203 and D623M1501204) on any helicopter unless specified requirements are met. This prohibition is part of the AD incorporated by reference and is effective May 14, 2026.

No special flight permits allowed

Special flight permits (ferry permits) under 14 CFR 21.197 and 21.199 are not allowed for these helicopters while this AD is in effect. That means you cannot legally fly the helicopter under a special permit to move it for maintenance if the AD condition applies, effective May 14, 2026.
