5-Year Exemption to Use Camera Mirrors
ROSHO asked FMCSA for a 5-year exemption from 49 CFR 393.80(a) so motor carriers could operate commercial motor vehicles without the two required physical rear-vision mirrors and instead use ROSHO's camera-based "Mirror System." If FMCSA grants the exemption, motor carriers could equip CMVs with the camera system as an alternative to the two mirrors for the requested 5-year period.
Claims of Improved Driver Safety and Comfort
ROSHO states its camera-based Mirror System offers safety and comfort benefits for drivers including an expanded field of view, enhanced image quality, fail-safe design, reduced driver fatigue, dirt/debris and blind-spot detection, night and low-light capability, and heating to remove frost or fog.
