Carriers Must Keep LCV Training Certificates
Motor carriers that employ Longer Combination Vehicle (LCV) drivers must keep a copy of each driver's LCV Driver-Training Certificate and produce it to authorized Federal, State, or local officials upon request. The rule applies to motor carriers employing LCV drivers and is tied to the certification requirements in 49 CFR Sec. 380.113.
Drivers Need LCV Certification to Operate
Drivers may not be permitted to operate an LCV unless they have successfully completed required LCV training and received an LCV Driver-Training Certificate. The certificate is issued upon successful completion of the training and is required before a motor carrier may allow a driver to operate an LCV.
Paperwork Time: 10 Minutes Per Certificate
FMCSA estimates it takes 10 minutes to prepare an LCV Driver-Training Certificate for a driver who completes training and 10 minutes for certificate-related activities during hiring. The agency estimates 59,333 respondents and a total annual burden of 4,959 hours (up from 4,360 hours), reflecting an increased driver population.
