Notice

Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs is updating how it collects financial info from veterans applying for loan help or special housing grants. More veterans will be involved—jumping from 29 to 1,200—and the process now includes better phone check-ins, which means more accurate data and a bit more paperwork. If you’re a veteran or service member, keep an eye out and share your thoughts by June 3, 2026!

Many more vets must fill financial form

If you are a veteran or service member applying to reinstate a seriously defaulted VA-guaranteed, insured, or portfolio loan or applying for a Specially Adapted Housing Grant under 38 U.S.C., Chapter 21, you will be asked to complete VA Form 26-6807. The number of participating veterans increases from 29 to 1,200, with an estimated 1,200 respondents annually, an average of 45 minutes per respondent (one-time), and a total estimated annual burden of 900 hours.

More phone check-ins by VA Loan Technicians

VA Loan Technicians will conduct more telephone accounting/check-ins as part of the financial information collection, improving the accuracy of reported information but increasing the paperwork and contacts you may experience. The agency says these telephone activities were previously underreported and contributed to the rise in estimated respondents from 29 to 1,200.
