The Conner Prairie Museum intends to return a snapping turtle rattle, acquired before 1965 and accessioned in 1965, to the Wyandotte Nation. The repatriation may occur on or after June 4, 2026, and no money will change hands for the transfer.
Lineal descendants may seek repatriation
Any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization not identified in the notice may submit a written request to Conner Prairie Museum showing by a preponderance of the evidence that they are affiliated or a lineal descendant. Requests must be sent to Sara Schumacher at Conner Prairie Museum, 13400 Allisonville Road, Fishers, IN 46038; repatriation may occur on or after June 4, 2026, and the museum will resolve competing requests or accept joint requests as a single request.
