Temporary Lake Erie safety zone on May 9
If you are boating on Lake Erie between Vermilion and Cleveland, Ohio, on May 9, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., you may not enter the regulated area. The rule creates a 100-yard radius safety zone around the moving regatta (about one-half to one mile offshore) and no non-participating vessels may enter without authorization.
How to get permission to enter
If you need to enter the regulated area during the event on May 9, 2026 between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., you must obtain permission from the Captain of the Port or their representative. To request authorization, contact the Captain of the Port on VHF‑FM channel 16 or call (888) 230-4703.
