Summary
From June 2 to June 8, 2026, the Coast Guard will block off a section of the Willamette River between the Hawthorne and Steel Bridges for the Portland Rose Festival. Boats and people can’t enter this security zone without special permission to keep everyone safe during the event. If you’re on the water nearby, plan ahead and follow the rules to avoid fines or delays.

Willamette River Security Zone Closure
From noon on June 2, 2026 through noon on June 8, 2026, all waters of the Willamette River between the Hawthorne and Steel Bridges are a security zone. No person or vessel may enter or remain in that area without permission from the Captain of the Port Columbia River; if you try to enter you could face delays or fines.
How to Request Zone Permission
If you need to enter the security zone between the Hawthorne and Steel Bridges during the enforcement period (noon June 2 to noon June 8, 2026), you must get permission from the on-scene Captain of the Port representative. You can request permission by contacting them on VHF Channel 16 or 13.
