FAA Fixes Embraer Plane Pitch: Safety First, No Surprises
Published Date: 5/8/2026
Rule
Summary
If you own or operate Embraer EMB-545 or EMB-550 airplanes, listen up! The FAA found a problem with the pitch trim actuator that helps control the plane’s stability, so they’re requiring checks and fixes starting May 26, 2026. This keeps flights safe and smooth, and while it might cost some time and money, it’s all about keeping everyone flying worry-free.

4 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 4 costs, 0 mixed.
Potential Costly Actuator Replacement
If the operational check or pitch trim verification fails, you must replace the pitch trim actuator and perform an operational check before further flight. The FAA estimates on-condition replacement costs are 44 work‑hours ($3,740) plus $150,000 in parts, totaling $153,740 per airplane.
No-Fly Requirement Until Replacement
If the operational check indicates failure, the AD requires replacing the PTA P/N 492600-1017 with another airworthy PTA with the same P/N and performing a new operational check before further flight. That means the airplane may be grounded until the replacement and verification are completed.
Required Pitch Trim Operational Check
If you own or operate Embraer EMB-545 or EMB-550 airplanes, you must perform an operational check of the horizontal stabilizer pitch trim actuator under this AD effective May 26, 2026. The FAA estimates the required check takes 2 work‑hours at $85/hour (total $170) per airplane and the AD applies to 294 U.S.-registered airplanes.
Mandatory Reporting and Paperwork Burden
You must report the operational check and pitch trim verification data to the FAA as required by this AD. If the check was done on or after May 26, 2026, submit the report within 10 days after accomplishing the check; if done before May 26, 2026, submit within 10 days after May 26, 2026. The FAA estimates public reporting takes about 1 hour per response and lists OMB Control Number 2120-0056.
